Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease that disrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and body. Approximately 1.2 million Americans live with MS. Its exact cause is not known. It happens when something triggers the immune system to attack the brain and spinal cord.
Autoimmune damage of the myelin is associated with MS. HSCT aims to stop this process from happening so that proper electrical conduction within the nervous system is restored. In addition to preventing an underlying autoimmune disease, the reinstatement of appropriate, healthy signaling from nerves to muscles often results in clinical and symptomatic improvement. Currently, HSCT is the only existing, proven MS treatment that completely halts the progression of the disease.
HSCT has been used to treat cancer since the 1960s. At Clinica Ruiz in Mexico, they have been using the Mexican Method for 12 years, and its success rate has been documented as being approximately 78%. These are the patients who go into remission after the procedure successfully stops the progress of the disease. This results in their enhanced quality of life.
